Crete - Travel Information

Crete is the largest Greek island and one of the most popular holiday destinations. The central part of the island is mountainous area and all cities are situated on the north coast. Island has long and significiant history since it was first inhabitet 6000 BC. It was home of ancient Minoan Civilazation. Major Minoan sites are Knossos, Paestos and Malia. Crete is island of remarkable historical and archeological value, but also destination of unforgetable nature beauty. One of the Crete’s top attractions is Samaria Gorge, the second bigest canyion in Europe, popular for hiking tours. Ancient city of Aptera, Botanical Park and island of Spinalonga, which is an ancient fortress, are some of the most visited sites on Crete. Crete has magnificant beaches with blue Mediterranean sky, tirquoise clear water and palm trees. Beaches offer wide choise of activities for every taste, from sandy to rocky, from lonely to crowded and naturist.
